More than Overcomers

More than Overcomers by Dr. Iris DelgadoBefore we can become overcomers, we must overcome something.

So many of us recite our prayers of supplication and petition expecting God to move on our behalf, without overcoming in our daily habits and our lifestyle.

What am I saying here?  I’m saying, that in order to become an overcomer, we must: be someone who conquers a problem; struggle’s successfully against a difficulty or disadvantage; makes somebody helpless, defeats somebody, wins despite obstacles (Encarta Dictionary English North America).

Romans 8:3 7 “Yet amid all these things we are more than conquerors and gain a surpassing victory through Him Who loved us.”(TAB)  Notice the word amid and all these things.

Verse 35 has the answer: “…shall suffering and affliction and tribulation? Or calamity and distress? Or persecution or hunger or destitution or peril or sword?  We become overcomers when we continue standing steadfast and remain at peace in the midst of all adverse circumstances.  God has guaranteed us a surpassing victory but we must remain in Christ.

Now getting back to the meaning of the word overcomer according to the Encarta Dictionary, let us look at the meaning: to make somebody helpless and, to defeat somebody.  This is where a lot of Christians miss out on the victory – lack of knowledge about who their enemy is and what he is capable of.  The Word of God says that we have authority over all the power of the enemy, Luke 10:19.  The Bible also says that Satan is under our feet.  But that’s just meaningless words to so many.  It’s amazing to me how easily many people will sit down and watch a demonically inspired movie or play a video game, but when you try to teach them to do spiritual warfare against the devil, they become fearful.

To become an overcomer and have an unsurpassing victory in every crisis, we have to become serious with God and dedicate our lives to serving Him in spirit and in truth.  Demonic powers tremble and flee when a believer exercises their God-given rights.  There are spirits for every kind of problem that exists, and until we learn to expose them and radically deal with them, we will not enjoy God’s very best for our lives.  We are at war with satan and his kingdom and many do not even know it.

Demonic activity first begins in the thoughts.  The Word says in 2 Cor. 10:4-5 ” The weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but they are mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds, casting down imaginations and evey high thing that exalts itself above the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into the obedience of Christ, which is the Word of God.”  A demon will come in with a thought and if you entertain it until it becomes an imagination, it can utterly destroy you, if you allow it.  We need to learn about the enemy of our souls.  We cannot keep doing the same things every day and expect good and healthy changes to take place in our life. We must come to the place where we say ‘enough is enough.’

Some of us have gone through some very difficult situations and experienced some horrific traumas.  But, my God, is able to deliver us out of all our distresses.  My God can restore us completely.  He can set you on a new place.  Psalm 32:7-9 “You are a hiding place for me; You, Lord, preserve me from trouble, You surround me with songs and shouts of deliverance (think about that)!  I (the Lord) will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you.”  Think about this again: that the Lord God surrounds me, you, with songs and shouts of deliverance!  Can you see Him?  God Almighty singing and shouting for you and over you?  That is something awesome!  Do you realize how many times the enemy has had to flee – how many times you have missed being part of an accident – how many times you have been kept from a trap… God’s divine intervention, His songs and His shouts of deliverance have kept us from dangers and exposure.

To end this blog, I quote Psalm 33:18 “Behold the Lord’s eye is upon those who fear and worship Him, who wait for Him and hope in His mercy and loving-kindness.  To deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.”  I like this verse.  It ministers to me.  To know that God’s eye is upon us to deliver and save us, is an awesome thought to ponder.  God so desires that we turn to Him and serve Him with all our being.  There is so much that He want’s to pour into our lives.  We must become knowledgeable about who our enemy is and how he operates.  We must stand firm every day and love God with all our heart and soul.

The benefits of serving God are unfathomable (deep and impenetrable).

I challenge you today to become an overcomer and then more than an overcomer.  Start overcoming something – such as your thought life, your negative words or habits, your fears…  Make your enemies helpless, defeat your enemies and become a winner despite your obstacles.
