How to Have Victory Over Your Thoughts

THE POWER OF Our Thoughts

No negative thoughts allowed

Scripture: Philippians 4:8 “Whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.”

Think about this: Have you grown in your relationship with Christ since you trusted Him as your Savior?  Are you still excited about the Christian life, or have you sort of drifted from the Word of God and grown stagnate?

In order to become successful like God created you to be, there are six areas of your life that must be brought under order and control.  Today I want to deal with one of those areas—”Our Thoughts.”

1.  The power of our thoughts

The mind is the control tower of our life.  Our thoughts govern our relationship to God, others, our successes, our failures, and the direction of our life.  Godliness is the result of thinking rightly – thinking like God thinks.

2.  The problem with our thoughts

The influence of our past

When we were saved God gave us a new spirit, a new life, and a new beginning, but He didn’t blot the past from our mind. Why?   God wants us to use the good and bad experiences of our past in ministering to other people.  We will be sensitive to their needs because of our past experiences.

3.  The wrong input

What we allow into our mind each day greatly affects our thoughts and actions.

(Examples: television, magazines, social media)

   Results of wrong input:

Ungodly input creates an appetite or acceptance for the things of the world.  Things that were sinful to us have gradually become acceptable and enticing.

Ungodly input can create a spirit of hostility toward the things of God.  When we develop an appetite for ungodly things, godly things begin to irritate us because they make us feel guilty.  We begin to edit God from our life, and strongholds develop.

4.  A stronghold is an area of thinking in which we allow Satan and his evil spirits entry.

   Satan cannot force his way into our mind.  It’s our private space.

   Satan blinds the mind of the unbeliever.

(2 Corinthians 4:4) Whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.

   Satan deceives the believer.

(2 Corinthians 11:3) But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

   Acknowledge you have the capacity to think with wisdom.    (1 Corinthians 2:16) For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

   Seek spiritual things.  (Colossians 3:1-2) If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.

   Sift thoughts through the Word of God & the will of God.  Memorize, personalize, and declare this scripture every day.    Corinthians 10:5) casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.

   Choose to refuse some thoughts.  (Psalm 101:2-3) I will behave wisely in a perfect way.
Oh, when will You come to me?
I will walk within my house with a perfect heart.  I will set nothing wicked before my eyes;
I hate the work of those who fall away;
It shall not cling to me.

   Renew your mind by meditating and feasting on the Word of God.    (Colossians 3:16)  Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

God is looking for sons and daughters who are thinking His way and looking at things from His viewpoint. He has a tremendous storehouse of blessings waiting for you to enjoy.
